Barebarics
The Gist
Barebarics are created by Be Lenka who. They have definitely opened up a new generation of barefoot shoes. All models are vegan with a wide toe box and zero drop. The standout difference is that they have a chunkier look about them. The sole is thicker and the upper is not as super soft and flexi as some of the 'purist' barefoot models. They fit almost unnoticeably into the urban footwear scene and are the perfect option if you want a more 'regular' looking sneaker, if you are transitioning into barefoot and want something with more shoe under foot or if you need a non-slip, durable sole for many hours on a concrete floor. You'll still feel the lumps and bumps without the total foot workout.... and they look bloody great.
The Fit
Barebarics fit (generally) true to size with an extra wide toe box and are close fitting and adjustable through the mid foot. They have a square shaped toe box which will fit most foot shapes. If you have really narrow feet, you may find extra room in the toes but it isn't usually a problem as you can still have a secure fit at the midfoot and heel. The volume is medium to high and can work with low volume feet but you may want to add an extra insole.
Considerations
One issue that we occasionally get is that the heel opening can rub. Probably caused by the material being less supple and the higher volume (the back of the shoe sits fairly high). We can usually work around it by making sure your sock is high enough to come between the shoe and skin or, if your feet are low volume, an extra insole might do the trick.
If you need plenty of vertical space in the toe area, you might need to take the insole out to prevent any restriction on your toes from above.
